Advisor for Tourism, predicts a good year

The Advisor of Tourism from the Gobierno Canario, Manuel Fajardo, predicted that, “this year will be a very good year for the Canary Islands”. Fajardo, confirmed that after figures provided by various tour operators, reservations have increased for Lanzarote for the summer months, especially tourists coming from mainland Spain. Lanzarote has been recently promoted in Germany and in the United Kingdom and it is hoped that occupancy figures reach 96% this year as opposed to the 75% that was reached last year. After various surveys were carried out, it was found that 1,688,223 tourists visited Lanzarote last year and of that figure 96% said they would return and 99% said they would definitely recommend the island to their friends. Fajardo claimed that although the fall in tourism was mainly by German and British visitors, an additional 20% of Spanish tourists had visited the island. It is also estimated that each visitor to the island spends an average of 36,50€ per day.

I'm glad to see increasing interest about Lanzarote, also if in my country (italy) few people knows it.The island is not promoted here.Maybe that's a good moment, now,to look for a home before the prices 'll get higher. But the Canarian Government must understand that the bigger problem (on the italian tourism market)is the travel to canarias: the fly tickets are very expensive with a "regular" fly company (Iberia...). There are, in italy, also low cost companies but, to take a good fly, you should leave from here, go to London Stanstead, Luton or Exeter (or Ireland too), than take a cheap fly to canarias (and waiting also a night sometimes..), saving also the 60% of a "regular" ticket! Also for this reason, italians prefer other locations (egypt for example). That's a pity, a good fly program to larger range of european countries, could help the wonderful island of Lanzarote to get more market interest! Do you know the main low cost companies landing in ACE airport (I know only Binter Canarias, Ryanair and Thomas Cook)? I'll be there soon, but I've paid 1100,00 €!!!(2 and 1 child) and that was a "nice price!" from a friend agent! bye.

I don't think Ryanair do go there marco - but maybe I am wrong.

I use XL mainly as they are cheap and good, I travel from Glasgow but there are loads more flights from English Airports. Thomas Cook, Airtours, MyTravel, Britannaia BA etc all fly there form Uk...

I am paying £160 for a return ticket in June Glasgow/Ace..I didn't think that was bad.

Have a ghreart holiday when you get there. Wher are oyu staying??

hi zannah, the price you pay is not so bad , you're right. for a development of tourism, it's very important a large fly offering, I think.I'll be in Puerto d. Carmen,in the "old town" (varadero)as alike every year.I've there a sharetime property, but i'm not more happy about it.I like very much PDC, but not the big beach area. I find very interesting also the center of the island, the villages in the La Geria area and more!hi.

Marco,
Lots of people like the large PDC beach, but I tend to agree with you and prefer other, smaller beaches in PDC. Have you tried the Playa Chico Beach by the Old Town ?? Or any of the smaller beaches up towards San Antonio ?

hi, no i don't like all the beaches!but sometimes, when I want to go inside the sea water, I like the beach called "el cortijo", it's between Mala and Arrieta. An other spot I like it's near Orzola, between jameos del agua and orzola (el caleton blanco and others).I like very much the inner countryside and the wine-tasting sessions in La Geria! hi!

Have you tried the papagayo Marco - away from all the tat in PDC.

Good choice on the beaches in the north - even quieter!

Ryanair have started flying out of Dublin - but their prices aren't particularly cheap.

Afternoon Ole - welcome to the Peoples Republic of lanzaroteisland!!! Lanza.com to authoritarian for you?!

It would be nice for Lanza to become a real melting pot again - it has recently become too British/Irish if you know what I mean. Flights are really expensive from the continent compared to what we pay.

If you talk to any germans ask them how much their flights cost - generally twice as much as we do.

PS Ryanair only goes to Ace Ventura from Girona and Dublin.

I too remember many scaninavians in the mid 80s. Casas del Sol - prob the first major development in Playa Blanca was built and run by norwegians originally.

And personally would far prefer the island to be populated by Norwegian chavs rather than British Chavs!!!!!

Pete, your over reacting.

Go and walk around Matagorda and reconsider!! Or the far end of the strip beyond the casino.
