Slightly off the subject of drugs, one of the downsides of PDC WAS the constant stream of timeshare touts. They seem to have disappeared over the past couple of years round the old town. Is it general or have they moved up to Playa Blanca or the 'strip' in PDC.

Last summer the time share touts (sorry, holiday club touts) were hanging around within 250 metres each side of CC Atlantico.
They never like it when you walk off with their scratch card thing. Y'know the scenario: bloke / blokette accosts you and wants you to 'do a scratch card' to see if you've won this week's promotion.
I really p!ss 'em off by taking the card and saying something like: 'Cheers, mate! I'll scratch it later. Your phone number's on it if I win isn't it? Cheers, mate...'

I've never encountered any time share people in PB. No doubt they are there lurking somewhere - but my guess is the tourists that visit PDC is more the target 'punter' than you'd find in PB.

On the original topic. I guess redrob is entitled to his opinion. He's perhaps just been unlucky with timing of his trip with the drains, most people accept there is a problem.

PDC isn't everyones cup of tea - it's not mine. However, even living in PB its good for a night out when we have friends visiting. Yes, there are drugs - of course there are if that's what you want - as there are everywhere. I would point out that generally it's less than you'd find in most of the towns and cities of the UK... Certainly much less than used to surround us in Portsmouth, Derby, Nottingham, Liverpool.... And god knows how many other places I've been! If there's a drugs debate to be had - its probably about the UK!

If you are a relative newbi, you may not have seen the touts, but there was a base in PB up to 15 months ago, which they operated out of.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but allegation after allegation, if it ibased on hearsay and not fact, is not of value to anyone?

I totally agree with you Alan about the drugs scene in the UK but I fail to see your point about the target punter being in PDC, I would have thought it would be the other way round.

Pete - No, I haven't encountered them yet. The only people we've had grief off in the street - of course - are the camera shop guys - who, now we tend to have the dog with us much of the time, leave us alone.

Keith - the view was based based purely on the greater pesence of the time share people in PDC, they themselves must be of the opinion that it is a better market for them there - whatever the reason might be...

They used to be out in force upto 15 months ago and congregated around the roundabout in the town, but I do remember the police had a mad purge to clean them out.
There again, timeshare is now a thing of the past, isn't it now holiday clubs?

Probably is mostly holiday clubs now. Same sales methods though isn't it?

Pity the police don't take the same approach with the camera shops...

As a very happy and satisfied time share owner for the past 17 years i must object to some of the comments made on the subject. Certainly there used to be a lot of problems with sales methods but the industry has made a lot of improvements and there are definitely fewer of the pushy touts around these days.Anyway, no-one was ever physically forced to attend a presentation,it is always possible tosay 'no thanks' and walk away as we do when necessary. There is nothing wrong with timeshare, just as there is nothing wrong with double glazing, insurance, used cars etc provided you buy from a reputable firm, know what you can afford and stick to it. Finally, the very best timeshare complex IN THE WORLD is not only in Lanzarote, but is in PDC. So there!!!!

..as you say jojim there's nothing wrong with time share, or double glazing, or insurance. If you want it. It's the sales methods most people including myself object to. Those sales methods often lead people into buying something they really don't need or want.... You only need to watch 'Watch Dog' and the like to get some. Your comments on a reputable firm, and knowing your budget etc. are sound advice... But, sadly not everyone has such pleasant experiences sad smiley

Here's some pages on the Internet - not everyone has their wits about them as you have, and the 'bad guys' are still out there...

Alan
You are right of course and you will no doubt have read the statement by the Timeshare Consumers Assoc. where they warn about these holiday clubs. They aso say the best timeshare places are usually run by the owners through a committee, which the one we own is.

Gotta agree with jojim regarding timeshares, i think the days of the everyones a winner scratch cards have all but disappeared, and the final deals are not made if the customer hasnt the funds or dosent want to do the deal.
Ive lived in lanza for 4yrs now and once again find myself living just of the main strip in pdc, yes when it rains it still causes havoc, but a few days out of 365 shouldnt put a death sentence on carmen, there is alot of money being spent in pdc at the mo with the golf course opening soon, the re-furb of the la hoya centre in the old town, then of course fab places like the cafe ola, re opening of the superb charlies bar, loads more palm trees and plants being planted................its not all bad
