Excellent a discussion about PDC being a dump - more than happy to add my tuppence worth!!!!

If this Rob character likes Costa Teguise so much am surprised he can't stand PDC - because BOTH in my opinion are English tourist dominated, Blackpools poor cousin skanky 1980s jerry built, planning permaission ignored hell holes!!!

OK a little OTT but you get my point.

The drugs issue is ludicrous the guy probably tried to buy some decent sh*t and got sold talc or something.

Fortunatley most of the 70s and 80s building are falling down or being demolished so hopefully something more sympathetic will be built rather than a "strip"

Sounds like one big wind up folks.

Strange that he disappears when the questioning gets specific.....!!

And accusing the Lanis owner of being a drugs front! Well I wouldn't like to comment except he drives a hummer and a lot of those restaurants are empty.....

Will, I understand how you meant your last comment to come across, but I'd consider editing it as you never know who is reading or how litigous they are...there are now several international precedents.

Yours paranoidly,

Got to throw my two penneth worth in here! Firstly i have to say that i was once introduced to Lani by my neice who has lived on the island for a lot of years and can only say that he was a very friendly guy who's company i enjoyed. Whatever he has been alledged to have been involved in in the past may be true but then again it may not so any comments about him unless backed by fact or proof should left amongst the bar room gossip and not put in writing on postings where the majority of postees prefer to keep themselves anonimous. Will, i think you should take another look at the Lani's restaurants, i don't mean for the food but the fact that they do have a rather good turnover of customers and as Lani holds the freeholds on his restaurants (doesnt pay stupid rents) is making quite a considerable amount of money.
Now it doesn't take a genius to know that as far as will is concerned everything in PDC is a hell hole (his words not mine..though ive left room for a comeback).
After many postings from the Playa Blanca appreciation brigade who, in the main, dislike the set-up in Pdc (for want of a better term....it is late and ive had a few lol) may i just add that it is still the main resort in Lanzarote and was the resort that firstly attracted folk from near and far to the island. It's really a big shame that postee's such as will whilst singing the praises of Playa blanca (and various other places (usually restaurants) do no service to the island as a whole by slagging off the resort that made it all happen.

Gotta say this, my next door neighbours house was demolished last november and i have been through hell for the last few months regarding noise etc. the reason being is a new lanis which opened just over a week ago, but antonio dalani has come round to me quite a few times and been very understanding, and ive ended up without paying rent for my 3bed apt cleaners coming round, and having a free night at the new lanis place, so whatever the rumours are about the cypriot clan they have been very nice and approacheable to me, and as ive said b4 the food may not be out of this world but u r gonna get nice views and eat in a nice clean and tidy place...........i still think pdc and the old town has alot to offer, costa teg on the other hand is a purpose built holiday resort, as is (will) a big chunk of playa blanca

Hey Biffa et al rather a lot of my post was tongue in cheek - unlike the original poster who seems to have disappeared under questioning.

Yes I don't like PDC for many of the reasons given - but I dispute the charges of drug dealing and dodgy coppers. Lanza is no worse than anywhere else and signicantly better than the majority of places there.

PB has its probs too - like the entirety of Faro park and the lighthouse developments. Awful homogeneous, characterless bunkers with one or too pleasing exceptions.

Lanis isn't my thing - I don't particularly like large chain restaurants and would much rather support local independent types - as long as they are any good!!

I'm sure the Lani bloke has done very well for himself - I just can't stand him since the time he nearly put me over the edge at Femes in the stupid car of his!!

Will - I think most of us know that many of your posts are tongue in cheek. So don't think this is aimed at you...

There's something symptomatic about the British psyche. Which is especially amplified on this little island... When someone is doing well we get green with envy - especially if we can't quite understand how they are doing it. We gossip, and come to the conclusion that if we aren't smart enough to get it - they must be doing something 'bad' or illegal.... Nothing p****s of your average Brit more than someone doing well for themselves!

"We gossip, and come to the conclusion that if we aren't smart enough to get it - they must be doing something 'bad' or illegal.... Nothing p****s of your average Brit more than someone doing well for themselves!"

In addition, the many ex-pats who work illegally (for cash), often do not consider themselves to be crooked.
But if you seem to be a success, then the envy kicks in.
As for lani's chain, they do not appeal to me, but I must give credit that where there is a Lani's, there is a lot of money been spent on the fit-out and it is not just like many, where they think a coat of paint may do.
The food, OK so it doesn't suit myself and others, but is seems that the mass of Brit tourists like it.
Lani's has got something right and good luck to him.
I do like his boat at Calero.

The Island is a very small place, but the small mindedness of many of the ex-pats, make it an even smaller place.
Out of interest, how many "major" businesses on the Island are owned by ex-pats?
I don't mean the cleaners, pool and propety maintenance, bar owner etc.

Perhaps again something more general about Brits. Plety of people sepnd their lives dodging taxes in the UK and will continue to do so if they are getting away with it. Not really a suprise that if someone is that way inclined will do it overseas too...

Absolutely Pete. Couldn't agree more.

Bloody good question Pete! We haven't encountered any yet that are not tourism or property related (however, there are some very good business people in those fields). I'd love to know if there are any outside that...

Hey,

I have to say... I also had to put up with Lanis building the restaurant next door. What happened to my free meal?

Guess someone else ate mine.

Luv and Kisses

If I have to be honest I personally witnessed some drug use by some of the PR's and tourists in PDC who I got friendly with, I declined their offer of drug use because its not my thing but each to their own. Also I myself had a run in with a couple of members of the local mafia in a club (Cesars) they seemed to be of Tunisian/Moroccan origin. Luckily on this occasion I was smart enough to talk myself out of the situation, But im sure many young brits are not as fortunate.

I think its a shame to write any destination off completely, but I suppose everyone is entitled to their oppinion. I'll be the first to say Lanzarote is probably not the most innocent of places in the world but where is?

BUT.......I would definately go back, takes a lot more then a minority of scum to keep me away from going anywhere on holiday. Most tourist resorts you go to nowadays are going to be the same unfortunately. Just make sure you are sensible enough to avoid any sticky situation.

And finally other then the small incident in Cesars I always felt safe in Lanzarote. Having said that I felt safer in Lanzarote then I ever did in more "In Your Face" resorts like Magaluf and Kos.

Hope this helps!
