I thought some of you may be interested in a great day trip we made from Playa Blanca last week . Lobos exceeded all our expectations. It looks like a barren volcanic rock just off Corralejo in Fuerteventura but it's far more interesting when you get there. The only downside is the cost of the ferries which work out at €45 per adult for the day trip if you don't get residents discount.

We set off on the 9 o'clock Armas ferry from Playa Blanca, arrived in Corralejo at about 9.30 and strolled over to the kiosk on the quayside where we bought tickets for the 10AM ferry to Lobos. On arrival less than half an hour later we walked into the uninhabited village (turn right) and ordered lunch for 1pm at the very basic "restaurante" (no food without pre booking). We then walked round the island on the signposted tracks which took about 2 hours and before lunch checked out the most fabulous beach just to the left of the ferry quay where we had a chilly but incredibly scenic pre lunch swim in the lagoon.

The island is very interesting as no-one lives there now as it is a national park so unspoilt. As much of the island is low lying when it rains plants can grow and there were a lot of beautiful wild flowers and even a grove of really tall sisal plants. The scenery is spectacular and there are tiny shells everywhere and very tame lizards. The views are stunning and if you're feeling keend you can walk up a hill at the far end of the island to the lighthouse and also climb up the volcano.

Lunch was an interesting selection of fresh fish, potatoes, bread, spicy mojo sauce and a quality bottle of rose wine. With 2 coffees the bill for 2 came to €23. After going back to the beach for an hour's snooze we toolk the 4pm ferry back to Fuerteventura and had time for shopping before catching the 6pm ferry back to Playa Blanca.

Definitely an excellent day out if you like to get away from it all.

From what I undertand (and please, no one sue me, 'cos it's hearsay!!) Lobos was owned by the RIU group and 'donated' it to Spain in return for their hotels in the Corralejo dunes being allowed to remain. despite dodgy building consent.

I'll definately consider a trip next time.

That sounds lovely Josie! thanks for sharing your experience with us. Alan and I have said that we'd like to go there too. Graciosa is another place we'd like to visit.

Where did you get your tickets from? Was it down at PB ferry?

Elle - yes we got the tickets at the booking office by the ferry in PB about 10 mins before departure - there never seems to be a problem if you're a foot passenger only but if you want to take a car it's better to book in advance in case they're full.
