December retreat
Posted by: Karel ()

I am looking for a retreat-type accommodation for about 4 weeks from end of November for 5-10 people (mostly singles, some doubles). We'll be practising (Taijiquan) most of the time so we would prefer:
- half or full board (but we could eat outside, too)
- no need for any entertainment (like TV, DVD, ...) smiling smiley
- some convenient space outside where we could practise (fairly undisturbed - but we are tolerant smiling smiley )

If you have something along these lines or know of someone offering something similar, I would be interested.

We tried north of Tenerife, loved it but found that December could be just a bit too rainy for us. As Lanzarote is the driest island (and aparently very pretty), we thought we'd give it a try. Any other suggestions are also very welcome.

Also, if there are people who practise Taiji, we would be interested to meet them (we do Chen style but not essential).

Sorry for being stupid, but what is Taijiquan?

Taijiquan or Tai Chi Chuan - Chinese (internal) martial art. Google it for more info.

Josie, everyone except me I think, DOH. Used to watch lots of boxing, but never watch it now.

I didn't know what it was either. Basically like watching Jackie Chan in super slo mo.

Beloved by posers down by the Thames at 8am in front of commuters. Also some whacko in car park round the corner from me goes through his moves most evenings. Don't think he is all there.

People people... Karel has asked a question and we've got a bit sidetracked. grinning smiley

Karel... I would steer clear of all the major resorts on the Island (yes, even my beloved Playa Blanca) as you won't get the solitude and the tranquility you're looking for.

Try somewhere in the North maybe... There's lots of fincas up there, that are far enough away from civilisation to give you guys some privacy. Try to find somewhere on the outskirts of Orzola, or Famara. I'd advise doing a web search on "Holiday Fincas in Lanzarote", or hopefully a property owner will come up trumps for you here.

Or you could have a look at the following site - which may be more what you're after.

Good luck!

Many thanks for the replies (Elle & Celtygirl). I'll investigate along the lines suggested.

We didn't look at the north as our experience in Tenerife was just a bit on the wet side. It seems that rain in Lanzarote also falls mainly in the north. Anyone can hazard a guess about how many days, on avarage, it rains there in the whole of December?

Don't worry about rain at all in Lanzarote, but if wind can put you off then you might think again because the winds are pretty fierce at times.

>Don't worry about rain at all in Lanzarote

Thanks - that's what I wanted to hear :^))

Wind should probably not be much of a problem - as long as it is warm wind :^).

We've now decided to come and have a look (probably a couple of days next month) before we book anything.
