Interestingly, it's not only generating lot's of traffic for them, the thread is also being touted on lot of other sites too, to drag people in - I smell a bit of a rat

A dodgy will writer is interesting but not THAT interesting.

By the way I think the traffic tends to be higher on the sites where the policing of business promoting signatures is less well enforced.

It's all getting pretty horrific on there at the moment, but totally compulsive! At one stage I was thinking "God, what would I do if that happened to my busines, because we all make cock ups, and I'm sure we've managed to upset or let down some people over the years." But when you analyse it, so much of his problem is self induced and brought on by his combative approach. I do wonder if he would have been better off giving the guy his €3000 immediatly and just keeping his head down. I was chatting to a bunch of Spanish friends on Saturday, and they have heard all about it and are looking in now. There's been a post from someone called "Not Lawyer" today, I'm guessing he is a lawyer, but it's quite poignant and thought provoking.

Jeez - lost at least an hour at work his afternoon reading all that - car crash or what???? What I never understand is that when people are in a foreign country they are so trustful - at home they will check credentials fully (and admittedly easily) but abroad, bit of credible smarm.......... If your shelling out €100k+ what is an extra 1% to make sure it's legal - false economy, but sadly, normally level headed people who wouldn't dream of doing it at home do it in Spain - to their cost. Why?Genuine interest in the answers.

Surely what is needed is an authoritive voice which states whether the sheltering of assets in the way suggested by Quill is acceptable to the tax
authorities in Lanzarote. Unless I've missed something on the very interesting saga being played out on the other site, then this authoritive voice hasn't been heard. Just what is the situation with creating such a tax shelter? nevermind
personalitities, never mind how much someone is making out of it, lets have facts. Having said all that, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole - but who
on this site has explored in detail what happens, in terms of Spanish tax, when
sadly we depart this world? I personally haven't the slightest idea. OK you
clever lot perhaps you do - but at least this saga will prompt me to ask a
few questions. However, this won't be to Quill, but wholehearted support the
suggestion that the Spanish department of an established UK company will be
worth the cost.

Having had my 'break' I'm back in curculation and just got to read all this stuff. Though I did throw my two-penneth worth in there in the early stages (pretty much what I posted on this thread).... It strikes me that - unless I've missed something - that the only people there fighting the Quill corner is Quill.

Hello everyone

I have read some of the stuff on the "other site" but ran out of energy very quickly. I never much like the look of the Quill product in the ads in The Gazette but it is true that the whole inheritance cross border thing is in a state of flux/evolution at the moment.

As one of the few qualified Uk lawyers on this and other forums I will check out the UK Law society's recommendations for Spanish inheritance advice and let you know what they say. It may take a few days as I am in the middle of the usual pre christmas rush. Why do clients always think the world ends on 24 December?

Josie, that would be interesting ans useful.

Have to say I read a bit, but then couldn't be arsed.

Mrs Flash came home from work last night and said - have you seen all that stuff about Quill Wills and then filled me in on all of the details!! And I thought she was beavring away at our accounts!!

In the UK they would be a member of a professional body and therefore liable to be struck off, isn't it the same in Spain?

I think because they are registered in the UK but operate in Spain law society isn't interested and because registered in UK - Spanish lot aren't bothered.

Its all very messy - one reason to pay for specialist advice from UK firm with a proper reputation. Not one of these tax shelters that could be rendered useless with any change in tax law.

All loop holes are closed eventually.

I remember a couple of years back city high fliers got their bonuses paid in Trillions of Turkish lira! Because you were able to write off exchange rate losses against tax - Turkish lira devalues at approx 15% per month - or was then.

Hell of a lot of admin to avoid tax and now not allowed.

Will, I'm sure you know there's been loads of these over the years 'a friend' used to be paid in fine wine which was very tax effective - Gordon Brown stopped that one. Years ago there were payments in all sorts of precious metals etc.

But as you say, it gets messy and if it's a mess some dear old fogies are leaving their executors, who lets face it might not be the the sharpest tools in the box, then they stand to lose out big time.

What is it they say, nothing is certain but death and taxes.
