Cheers CG. See he has been up to his old tricks then.

I don't know the guy who posts it, but could do with someone explaining to me why so many people seem to have such a problem with him posting the weather. I watched the thread on GL with horror and now have spotted this gleefully worded thread. Is there a history I've missed?

He cuts and paste the same unsolicited drivel on a variety of fora, which must be viewed as a desperate attempt to drum up visit for his villa rental business as he doesn't post anywhere (like here (although he did try)) that doesn't allow you to use your signature to promote your business. It was never an issue on here before he started posting - in fact he prompted the message warning that users will be deleted if this happens.

There is also the issue of the content - he posts mostly in the middle of the night, so its hardly live, he rarely says where on the Island he is talking about and drivel like the regular 'bawbeedazzler' isn't particularly helpful to someone who is genuinely interested in finding out about the weather on the island and clicks on his post.

My question about the above was prompted by an email from a potential client I've been talking to for almost a year. I've selected parts of her email and pasted them below.

".............I used to enjoy the weather notes he used to put on, and in the knowledge that he wasn't a real weather man etc. When you are planning a move to Lanzarote, you want every piece of info about the place you love that you can get, and it was great to be able to get a feel for what the weather was doing there.......

......it was like some wild west posse decided they didn't like him and they went all out the get him banned from the forum. It was like watching a bunch of school bullies rip into another kid for no apparent reason. Are the people who were doing this residents of the island? Is this typical of the ex pats who live there? It's made me think twice about whether the move is a wise one, is it just on the forums that these things happen, or are people just totally bitchy (sorry!) there all the time?............."

My thoughts are on this are that if someone decides their future on what a few contributors do on a forum, they must be very insecure and best to stay where they are and with who they know.

"It was like watching a bunch of school bullies rip into another kid for no apparent reason." yes, much like you see on the news from towns and cities in UK, on a regular basis, but would you stay away from UK just for that reason alone.

"It's made me think twice about whether the move is a wise one" As mentioned above, don't do it if such minor matters and everyday occurances are a major factor in your life and create such a problem.
Do you have to associate with that few if you live in Lanzarote?
So you associate with all the thugs, murderers, alchos., wife beaters, rapists, in the area of UK where you are from?

I agree with a lot of what you say Pete, and my response to her was a much softer version of your points! I also made the point that as far as I could see only one of the "Posse" she refers to is actually a resident here.

Well its not financial or for work reasons really is it?

So its only going to be social or climate.

So unless your friend mike threw a dart at the globe and hit the canaries and thought "ooh I think I'll move to Lanza - I wonder what the weather is like...." it sounds like a strange complaint.

If she's moving for social reasons, then maybe that would explain her concerns, although perhaps she is being a trifle paranoid.

I love the phrase "bitch slap" - almost as good as Angela's "Do you want me to flick the bitch switch?" - which I do on a regular basis! Call it hormones!
